A statement light for dining rooms, entries and living spaces. The sputnik chandelier is a mid-century classic that still shows up in a lot of modern interiors. Every arm is the same component, so the model stays light even with 18 lights.
What’s in the model
- Hub: a 6 in brushed brass sphere with a small finial underneath.
- Arms: 18 brass arms in three tiers of six, angled up 38°, level, and angled down 38°. The middle tier is rotated 30° so the arms interleave.
- Lights: each arm ends in a flared brass bulb cup and a 3½ in frosted glass globe.
- Mounting: a 6 in round ceiling canopy and a ¾ in downrod, about 23 in long, with a collar, putting the center of the hub 27 in below the ceiling.
The fixture is about 42 in across the arm tips and hangs 41½ in from the ceiling. Every part is a solid group, and the arm, bulb cup and globe are one component, so changing one arm changes all 18.
How to use it
- Download the .skp file, then use File → Import to add it to your model.
- The component origin is at the top center of the canopy, so snap it straight to a ceiling. Over a dining table, aim for about 30 to 36 in between the tabletop and the bottom of the fixture.
- To change the finish, open the component and repaint the brass parts, or repaint the Globe group inside the arm component to change all the bulbs at once.
