A good light fixture can carry a whole room in a render, and the sputnik chandelier is one of the most recognizable shapes in modern interiors. This free 18-light model is our first lighting fixture. It’s detailed enough for close-up renders but stays light, because every arm is the same component. It’s free for personal and commercial projects.

Get it: download the .skp from our library, or open it on 3D Warehouse to load it straight into SketchUp.

What’s in the model

  • Hub: a 6 in brushed brass sphere with a small finial underneath.
  • Arms: 18 brass arms in three tiers of six, angled up 38°, level, and angled down 38°. The middle tier is rotated 30° so the arms interleave.
  • Lights: each arm ends in a flared brass bulb cup and a 3½ in frosted glass globe.
  • Mounting: a 6 in round ceiling canopy and a ¾ in downrod, about 23 in long, with a collar.

The fixture is about 42 in across and hangs 41½ in from the ceiling, with the center of the hub 27 in down. Every part is a solid group.

Using it in a dining room or entry

  1. Import the .skp with File → Import, or use the 3D Warehouse panel inside SketchUp.
  2. The origin is at the top center of the canopy, so snap it straight to the ceiling.
  3. Over a dining table, leave about 30 to 36 in between the tabletop and the bottom of the fixture.
  4. To change the finish, open the component and repaint the brass parts, or repaint the Globe group inside the arm component to change all 18 bulbs at once.

We add a new free model to the library three times a week. Browse all free components.
